活性作用：
1.保肝作用水飞蓟素为保肝的主要活性成分,具有再生作用,可刺激新的肝细胞形成,改善肝功能;同时具有肝细胞膜保护作用,预防细胞毒素浸润肝细胞,并提高膜结构缺损的恢复能力。
2.抗氧化 水飞蓟素的酚羟基提供氢原子而有强大的抗氧化作用。它们具有清除自由基特性,抗脂质过氧化活性。
3.降血脂 水飞蓟宾能抑制成年大鼠心肌细胞质膜Ca2+通道,抑制食物诱导的血胆固醇过高,降低极低密度脂蛋白(VLDL)与低密度脂蛋白(LDL),升高高密度脂蛋白(HDL),可用于心血管系统疾病的治疗。
